What is Rifidi?

Rifidi aims to be the IDE for RFID. It is an open source project that intends to lower the barrier to entry for companies who want to use RFID. It eliminates the need to buy expensive hardware just to experiment with and tweak business processes. For example:

  1. Because our Emulator acts just like commercial readers, you can actually build out and experiment with software before investing in the hardware.
  2. With Rifidi Designer you can create 3D scenarios and run then so that you can see the process as it happens
  3. As these processes are running, they produce real data. Therefore, you can test other software components of your RFID system (such as edgeware and ALE servers) while the simulation is running, in real time.

What the products in the Rifidi Suite?

Currently there are three products in the Rifidi suite. The Rifidi Emulator a tool that allows you to play around with a few readers. You can create tags and drag and drop them onto the reader's antenna. Then you can communicate with the reader using client software, such as an ALE server.

Rifidi Designer builds on the emulator's functionality by allowing you to create and run a 3D simulation of a business process involving RFID. The Designer allows you to drag and drop components (such as RFID readers, conveyor belts, and push arms) onto a canvass and to define certain business rules associated with tagged items. Then you can actually run the simulation. This allows you to develop a deep understanding of the processes as well as helps you to define exception cases in the processes. For a demo of this software in action, go to http://www.rifidi.org/productdemovideo.html.

Rifidi Designer is still under heavy development, so expect to see great improvements in future releases.

Rifidi Tag Streamer a load testing tool. It allows you to script out certain scenarios using XML including tag add, tag remove, and GPI events. Then you can run these scenarios on multiple readers on many different machines.

What readers do you emulate?

We currently emulate:

  • Alien 9800
  • LLRP
  • Symbol
  • Awid
  • EPC
  • ThingMagic

Where can I get it?

You can download the latest release at http://sourceforge.net/projects/rifidi/.

What is Rifidi's license?

Rifidi is an open source project licensed under the LGPL.

How can I contribute?

The best way to contribute is to become a user. Use the product and find bugs. Let us know what bugs you find and what other features you think would be useful. In addition, if you a interested in building from source, and getting the latest releases, How to Build from source.
